Hi, I’m Kathleen

My journey began in my early 20s, shortly after graduating from college. I was uncertain about what I wanted to pursue as a career. And so, I needed to do some exploration. I began attending Filipino community events. This had sparked a desire to be involved. 

I began volunteering with different community organizations, where I primarily helped manage and create content for their social media. Along the way, writing was calling to me. I discovered grant writing, and that same spark of wanting to be involved was now through writing. I returned to school at San Diego State University to learn more about the field, but I still felt like there was more I needed to learn. That led me to join the Grant Writers Collective with Learn Grant Writing, where I deepened my understanding of the work. It was through this that I learned I could be a grant consultant and therefore, Torio Strategies was born. 

Recently, the interest to also pursue fundraising happened when I had the opportunity to lead the planning for an open mic fundraiser. Seeing so many people show up for the event, and give to support something meaningful made me realize that fundraising was another avenue that I want to be in.

Through these experiences, I found myself wanting to work with nonprofit and business leaders to develop strategic fundraising that continues their mission in taking care of people and the environment we live in, while also developing content to showcase the valuable work that they do. I want to support causes that matter. Or rather, the people behind them.
